The coins reverse itself is a complex design depicting the French gem merchant Jean Baptiste Tavernier who purchased the diamond in 1666 (and so became known as the as the The Tavernier Blue). This was then cut to yield the French Blue (Le bleu de France). On the right (in a cameo) is King Louis XIV, the monarch (also known as the Sun King), who purchashed the cut gem. The background is filled with pins of light representing the way a diamond sparkles, along with an insert of a map of India raised slightly as the country of the gems origin. At the top is an inscription giving the series name and the coin subject. At the bottom is the diamonds weight. & In the centre sits a large crystal replica of the Hope Diamond.
The obverse carries the Ian Rank Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.
