Prince Philip Celebrating a life of service 2017 UK £5 Silver Proof Coin: As His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh steps back from public duties, he can reflect on his record of achievement with a well-earned sense of pride. After a short but distinguished naval career, Prince Philip found a new purpose in life as a loyal consort to Her Majesty The Queen. For eight decades he has also devoted himself to hundreds of different causes, to inspiring young people, championing British design and engineering and campaigning tirelessly to protect the environment. He is also a former president of The Royal Mint Advisory Committee.
To recognise this enormous contribution, The Royal Mint has struck a £5 commemorative coin, struck in 925 sterling silver to Proof standard.

This original design features one of the last commissions by highly respected designer Thomas ‘Humphrey’ Paget. The coin table has been worked on by Royal Mint coin designer Lee R. Jones to include a new inscription. It reads ‘NON SIBI SED PATRIAE’ in Latin, which means ‘Not for himself but for his country’.
Issued as legal tender under the authority of The United Kingdom with the latest Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The monetary denomination, and silver content are shown on the coin’s obverse.
Presented in a black presentation box, the coin comes with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
