On 21 July 1969, an estimated 600 million television viewers watched as the first humans walked on the Moon. Most of these incredible images were shared with the world by two Australian radio antennas in Honeysuckle Creek ACT and Parkes NSW. The convex reverse shows the surface of the moon and an image of the moon landing and now famous moon walk of Neil Armstrong – “That’s one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind”.
The coin’s special concave obverse shows an enlarged radio antenna on earth with the moon in the background. A smaller insert depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination, and the 2019 year-date.
