Description
2009 Countdown to London 2012 Olympics
The first of four coins that formed a set counting down from 2009, to the 2012 London Olympic Games. What we have here is a Crown (Quintuple-sovereign) sized coin that weighs 39.94 grams, of which 36.6 grams is pure gold (22kt). All told, this contains 1.177 troy ounces of fine gold. It features the number 3, combined with swimmers competing. The official logo of the 2012 Olympics is highlighted in blue. Struck to the Royal Mint’s beautiful proof finish.
This particular coin comes in the limited edition box, which has space for the whole set of four. Because the £5 coin is a set size, you can fill the other three places with silver versions if you so wish. Super coin sourced direct from the mint and offered as shipped from them. Currently (June 2024), the Royal Mint is selling its gold £5 crown coins for £3,340.00, so this is an excellent opportunity to source at a fine price. We’ve even seen sets of the four sell for over £16k, and a graded MS70 for almost £8,000. A rare opportunity.
Obverse
On the obverse of the coin is the Ian Rank Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II
Packaging
Comes in the original Royal Mint collection box that has spaces for all four coins. A certificate of authenticity is enclosed.
