Discover France like you’ve never seen it before. In 2017, Monnaie de Paris presents a series of Face Value Coins depicting France seen through the eyes of French fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier. We present the first wave in a 2 part series of colorised silver coins featuring strong French symbols.
Jean-Paul Gaultier, born 24 April 1952 in Arcueil, Val-de-marne, France) is a French haute couture and prêt-à-porter fashion designer. Gaultier was the creative director of Hermès from 2003 to 2010. Jean –Paul Gaultier co-presented the popular television series Eurotrash with Antoine de Caunes.

Reverse Design
The reverse depicts the Gallic rooster (French: le coq gaulois) an enduring, unofficial national symbol of France playfully sporting the classic marinières uniform. This uniform is also a staple in civilian French fashion and is commonly known as the Breton shirt.
Obverse Design
The reverse of this silver coin shows the face value surrounded by two branched (oak & laurel) that evoke the Euro symbol. The entire reverse motive is framed in a hexagonal design representing the shape of France.
