NORNS SET: URD, SKULD & WERDANA 2026 5 Mark 3x1oz silver
We are proud to present the Norns – three ancient seeresses from the race of giants, who, in the shadow of Yggdrasil’s sprawling roots, wove and guarded the fate of all existence. Urd, Werdanda, and Skuld – Past, Present, and Future. Three sisters, inextricably linked to the Tree of Life, whose names are the very rhythm of time.
- Urd, the eldest of the Norns, stands at the roots of Yggdrasil, gazing into the waters of her well, where the shadows of days gone by are reflected. Her name means “that which has been,” and it is in this ancient wisdom that her strength lies. Every event, action, and decision that has already occurred flows to her like a river of memories. From them, Urd weaves the threads of fate, teaching that the past forms the foundation of the present and quietly guides the future.
- Werdanda, also known as Verdandi, means “that which is happening” and is the Norn of the present. Her role is to observe ongoing events and subtly influence their course by weaving fate in the moment. Werdanda symbolizes activity, the dynamics of life, and the necessity of acting “here and now.” Under her guidance, the present becomes a bridge connecting the past and the future.
- Skuld, whose name means “that which shall be,” is the Norn of the future. In her hands rests the mystery of the days to come, the inevitability of fate, and the responsibility arising from what is yet to happen. She records and foresees events yet to unfold. Skuld symbolizes mystery, uncertainty, and the consequences of present decisions. Her presence reminds us that every choice made in the present echoes in unknown events, intertwining the inevitable with hope.
Obverse
- Urd is depicted as a beautiful and wise being, weaving the golden thread of the past and reaching for memories and experiences. Standing at the foot of the Tree of Life, she carefully observes what has passed. Her eyes appear blind, yet they see far more than others. Dressed in an elegant gown and adorned with jewelry imbued with magical power, she exudes calm and timeless wisdom.
- Werdanda is depicted as a beautiful woman sitting on the root of Yggdrasil. Fully immersed in the present moment, she reminds us of the importance of choices and decisions made “here and now.” Her hair is braided like threads of fate, and her tasteful attire and magical jewelry complete the image of the guardian of the present.
- Skuld is depicted as a mysterious figure, dressed in a hooded robe and cloak that conceal what is yet unknown. At her belt hang human skulls, symbols of mortality and the price of knowledge about the future. In her hand, she holds a sharp knife with which she severs the thread of life, determining the fate of those who seek her visions. She stands at the foot of Yggdrasil, surrounded by the fallen, the still-living, and numerous swords, testimony to battles yet to come.
Reverse
The Germania Mint double-headed eagle is surrounded by the roots of Yggdrasil and golden threads of fate. The broken threads symbolize the possibility of breaking free from the past and shaping destiny through conscious actions in the present.
