Description
PREHISTORIC LIFE: PARASAUROLOPHUS 2022 Congo 1oz .999 BU silver coin
Parasaurolophus was a hadrosaur of the Lambeosaurinae subfamily. It is best known for its conspicuous crest on its head and the “duck’s beak” typical of hadrosaurs.
The Parasaurolophus belongs to the group of ornithopod dinosaurs Hadrosauridae and lived during the Upper Cretaceous, in what is now North America. The dinosaur is easily recognized by its backward bone comb and could reach a weight of up to 5 tons. Their unusual appearance, two long hind legs and two short front legs, helped them escape from predators and enemies. In addition, they possessed a great resemblance to ducks, due to the shape of their beak. Parasaurolophus were considered calm herbivores, whose biggest predators were the tyrannosaurus Gorgosaurus and the crocodile Deinosuchus.
Obverse face
