In ancient Greek mythology, one figure stands as a timeless symbol of transition and passage — the enigmatic Charon, the ferryman of souls. According to ancient myths, those who have passed away have to cross the rivers Styx and Acheron to reach the underworld. With a lantern in hand, he ushers departed spirits on a one-way journey, their passage shrouded in mystery and awe of the unknown. His fee for carrying the dead across the rivers to the underworld is a coin. On the 1 oz collectible, several gilded coins are depicted in Charon’s hand, reminding us that every journey has its price. The Charon coin endures as a testament to the eternal balance between the worlds where the currency is not of gold, but of destiny itself.

Obverse

The obverse of the coin features an image of the Olympus, surrounded by a laurel wreath and the typical Greek pattern. The design also incorporates the inscriptions: “REPUBLIQUE DU CAMEROUN” – the country of issue, “1000 FRANCS CFA” – the face value, “1OZ” – the weight of the coin and “Ag 999” – the fineness of the Silver.
