RUGBY WORLD CUP – 2023 France 10€ Proof Silver Coin
In 2023, France will host its second Rugby World Cup, following the 2007 tournament. The French team is one of the favourite nations to win the competition following their recent victory in the 2022 Six Nations tournament.
The second sub-series highlights the international competition that will take place in France.
World Rugby is the world governing body for Union Rugby. They organise the Rugby World Cup every four years. The Web Ellis Cup is named after William Webb Ellis, an English Anglican clergyman considered to be the inventor of rugby. According to the legend, Webb Ellis picked up the ball and ran with it during a school football match in 1823, thus creating the style of play of rugby.
To kick off the international competition, Monnaie de Paris is launching a 10€silver coin of the Trophy to be won.
The obverse features the emblem of the competition which will take place in France. Around the logo, the map of France is broken down by stylised graphic elements as the competition will take place in 10 cities across the country. The words “Coupe du Monde Rugby France 2023” as well as the yeardate are also present on this side.
The reverse shows the Webb Ellis Cup, which the winner of the World Cup will have the pleasure of raising. On the left of the cup is the inscription RF and on the right the face value. The Rugby World Cup logo is inserted below. All around the design are the words “Coupe du Monde Rugby France 2023”. This reverse, common to the series, will also appear on the collection that will be released in 2023!
